I’m not sure I understand what you mean.
I don’t see any background images on the WPSP list on the side bar. I only see a featured image thumbnail and the title.
To clarify: Do you want to remove the featured image? If so, you can edit the WPSP list in question and uncheck “images” under the image tab.
