    I installed WP Show Posts w/premium addon. I have used the plugin on several sites, but this is the first site where I’m using WP ShowPost excerpts. The issue I’m seeing is that links are not displaying as links in the excerpt. Also missing is formatting for bold text. The links and bold formatting is fine in the full post. The post was created with the Block editor.

    Hi there,

    Excerpts in WordPress remove all of the HTML (links, bold tags, etc..).

    I installed the Advanced Excerpts plugin. It seems to have no effect on WP Show Posts listings. If excepts are selected in WP Show Posts there is no formatting. If full posts are selected then Advanced Excerpts has no effect and the full post is displayed.

    In that case, you may need to use the More Tag in WordPress to manually define an excerpt cut-off – that will allow HTML.

    However, WP Show Posts uses the core the_excerpt() function, so Advanced Excerpts should work nicely if you tell it to allow certain HTML elements.

    Tom,
    I talked with the website owner and explained excerpts to her. I also suggested that she use the More Tag (this is what I do when I have to preserve formatting). She has decided instead to use shorter excerpts to keep uniformity on the post pages. She is more at ease knowing that the full post still has all her formatting.

    Thanks for your support and for some great software. My website design and development projects go a lot more smoothly with GeneratePress.

    Hey Tom,

    I tried the advanced-excerpts-plugin to allow a-tags in the excerpts but it doesn’t have any effect.
    Any idea how I might fix this?

    Hmm, that plugin should work, but obviously we need to do some testing on that.

    The best solution for now is to use the More tag and the full content option in your list settings.

    That way it will include full HTML, but you can choose the cut-off point using the more tag.
