    Hello Tom & Team,

I saw there was some known issues with custom excerpt and GP and it seems like the same or very similar problem applies to Wp Show Posts.

Here my problem is that when using custom excerpt, wp show post will show the **entire** custom excerpt and won’t truncate it at the chosen length…

As a temporary fix I’ve had to use the “Posts in sidebar” plugin but it’s a PITA since I would really want to run GP + wp show posts instead of adding too many “foreign” plugins to the mix.

Hopefully it can get fixed. I also hope the auto-filtering to the current post category will be implemented soon, it’s really something missing.

    Hey Benjamin,

The custom excerpt metabox in WordPress is meant to display in full – the cutoff point doesn’t apply to it.

WP only applies the cutoff when it is automatically creating excerpts from the full content.

I agree, but most “related posts” plugin I have used, have always implemented a way to circumvent it. The way WP planned it to be used is clearly not user friendly and doesn’t account for many scenarios (e.g. on the Category page, off course I want full custom excerpt… but NOT if I’m displaying small intro of related posts in a sidebar or below the current post!).

Would be nice if WP Show Posts had that too.

Example the plugin I had to use since WP Show Posts couldn’t do it, is : https://wordpress.org/plugins/posts-in-sidebar/

It’s source code is available on github:

Hope you’ll be able to implement it.

Thanks for this! I’ll take a look 🙂
