I agree, but most “related posts” plugin I have used, have always implemented a way to circumvent it. The way WP planned it to be used is clearly not user friendly and doesn’t account for many scenarios (e.g. on the Category page, off course I want full custom excerpt… but NOT if I’m displaying small intro of related posts in a sidebar or below the current post!).
Would be nice if WP Show Posts had that too.

I would really love to use wp show posts along with GP which is now my goto theme but some of these glitches are a bit problematic for me.
Humm, too bad the download link is broken. The official version doesn’t cut the excerpt as expected and I wanted to check if it was working in the beta version…
I guess I’ll just post the problem for investigation.
OK found it, the right plugin is this one :

Which does handle custom post type duplication.
Hummm somehow it doesn’t show the “duplicate” option in the list:

So it probably doesn’t handle custom post types
